The First Day of the Rest of My Life

Tuesday, July 29, 2003

Went to Austin today to help Suzanne out with her big move. You may remember me saying that she quit her job and was looking for one here in town. Well, she hasn't found one, and has ended up having to move back home with her parents. She's not very happy about the prospect, but I try and tell her that it's not that bad. (A lot of people are doing it currently, I try and tell her that she's just keeping up with the current trend.)

Anyway, she had asked me to come help take apart her bed. I got to her apartment, and started just about as soon as I walked through the doorway. She told me that she had loosened some screws already (the ones that held the posts to the bed frame). So when I went to take the box spring off of the frame, the whole thing almost fell apart, nearly hitting me (and her) in the head. Nice to see that all my major concussions can happen in the capital city. (Long story, I'll tell you later...)

Avoiding that disaster, it only took about 10 minutes to collapse the frame into two metal bars. We then spent the next few hours hanging out: lunching at a New York-style deli, hanging out on the UT campus and reminiscing about our time as students. And I wanted it to end SO soon!

Seems everytime we hang out, she always gets upset about what she's facing. I just so much want to say, "Snap out of it! Suck it up, and DO SOMETHING about it. Quit yer whining!" But, of course, I try and be gentle. ;)

I'm still wondering about that call I got last night from my friend from work. She said she wqas watching the station, and when she saw a snafu, somehow she thought to call me. Thank goodness that I was still somewhat coherent after leaving the bar...

Happy birthday to our resident Smart-Ass AP, Eric! Since I went to Austin, I wa sunable to partake in the big birthday luncheon he planned for today.

One of these days, I'm actually going to do some "serious" blogging about stuff that's not about me or my dating life (or lack thereof)...

Okay, some more quick notes while I'm still in my tipsy state right now...

-The co-worker whom I had lunch with way back actually called me about 30 minutes ago, out of the blue. It was a short chat, dealing with stuff about work, but I'm still wondering how I should read it.

-It pisses me off when I hear about how great other peoples' sex lives are.

-I only wish I had a sex life to begin with.

A couple of quick observations...

-I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again: like my job, don't like my hours.

-I just wish Suzanne and I could just say "good-bye" and be done with this song and dance.

Just saw "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" tonight.

I don't know why, but something tells me I need to be one of the "straight guys" on this show. It's funny, all the "improvement shows" that I watch (Trading Spaces, While You Were Out, etc.), and yet I follow none of the advice that I see or hear on these shows. Kind of like me getting every issue of Men's Health, and still having a gut. (which I do also...)

One of these days, I'll snap out of it. Just hope it's sooner rather than later.

I really need to start updating more...

Okay then, some quick updates.

-You may remember a couple of posts ago that I had lunch with a co-worker. Things with her have been somewhat erratic. We've talked somewhat regularly since then (though most phone calls have been instigated by me). Of course, with things still going on with Suzanne, part of me is somewhat leery about trying to take things TOO far.

-Work has been going smoothly. Not too much screwing up (for a change). A co-worker did bring something up with me today that's made me think. (Shocking, I know...) A lot of times when I bring up something (a possible error in a story or graphic, an idea brewing in my head, etc.), I usually end my sentence with the phrase "but what do I know? I'm just the audio op." One of the directors said that I say that too damn much. Our resident Smart-Ass AP commented to me, "Well, with that attitude, you'll be an Audio Op. for a while..." (or something to that effect). Some interesting comments, who knows whether I'll actually listen to them.

-So I have about $200 to use for a ticket on Southwest due to a cancelled ticket that I bought back in April. So now I'm thinking about taking a trip somewhere. But where? Back to Boston to see the area on MY terms? New York City for a possible guide to clubbing by Hayley? Vegas for a few days of hedonistic release? Los Angeles to finally try and be on a game show? Detroit to hang out with Amy? Somewhere else? Who knows? I'm just waiting for Southwest to start having specials to some cool cities soon...

I'd write more, but I must get ready for work. More soon... (i hope).

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Usually, about this time, I'd be workin' it at the station (or, just workin', period). But, since I'm off today, allow me to fill you in on what's been going on.

Last week, I went along with my family to the East Coast to visit an aunt of mine who lives out there. Now, I know I kept telling people that I was going to "visit Boston," but during the 5 days we were over there, I think we spent a grand total of around 15 hours actually in Boston. Side trips to Ogunquit, Maine and Newport, Rhode Island were involved as well. Some highs (visiting Fenway Park, winning $20 on a Massachusetts Lottery scratcher) and some lows (frustrations with my folks, not able to do anything on my own), but it was a good trip. Especially memorable when capped off by a picnic in the baggage claim area of the airport along with a celebrity sighting.

So Suzanne quit her j-o-b up in Austin, and is trying to get one here in SA. And all of a sudden I find myself involved with her again. Even made the mistake of dropping the "three little words" when I might not have meant it fully. (And, in the process, making the last statement of this post of Hayley's even more true...) How I'll get out of this one, I don't know...

Stuff to blog about more in depth when I have time:

- Ideas on how to use a cancelled ticket credit from Southwest.
- Life at the station.
- Trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life.
- Suddenly finding myself back in cahoots with my ex.
- Trying to figure out this new Blogger layout.
- My recent trip to Baw-ston.
