The First Day of the Rest of My Life

Monday, August 29, 2005

I wake up.
I eat an egg sandwich.
I shower.
I throw together something to wear.
I run out the door.
I get in my car.
I fight traffic.
I hope I get to work on time.
I sit at work for a few hours.
I spend about $5 on lunch.
I sit for a few more hours.
I drive home.
I make a call to my girlfriend.
I wonder when those calls will stop.
I watch TV.
I surf myspace.com and lavalife.com repeatedly.
I surf naughty sites.
I surf this site as well.
I watch more TV.
I enjoy self-pleasure.
I fall asleep.

Anyone care to tell me how the hell I break out of this routine?

Is it a bad thing that I started to try and hit on a woman at the tire shop?

In other news, things have been interesting with G lately. The reason she came back home to S.A., her mother, left this world on July 15. I attended the memorial service that was held a couple of weeks later. G's sister came up to me and said hello (she was in my marching band section). She told me that G was happy that I was there, which made me feel a little better. I didn't get a chance to talk to her much at the reception afterwards, since I had to get to work (took off a half-day).

A few days later, G told me about a job interview she had lined up out of state. Seems she found a position at the school where she did her grad work, and, since she knew some people who knew people, sent in a resume. They flew her in (!) for a one-day interview, then made her a job offer the next day.

All this happened last week.

On Friday, her and I hung out (while Suzanne and a friend of hers went to see some girl group who was playing in town) to celebrate her good fortune. She then told me that she was leaving to her new gig next weekend. Which, for those playing along at home, is four days away.

Yes, I realize that I never had a chance with her (witness the Great Christmas Debacle). And yes, I realize that I'm still currently with someone. But it still sucks. A great woman whom I've gotten to know over the last 13 months is leaving. I figured she'd spread her wings sometime, but I never thought it'd be so soon.

Last December, I sulked around for about two or three days. I hope I'm not as bad this time around.

Suzanne said "I love you" last night. I said,"Thank you," then went right to sleep.

We're supposed to go to Mass later. Should be interesting.

Alright, I requested more questions from everyone's favorite professor of complexification studies. So, here we go...

1. Why did you first start blogging?
Because everyone else was doing it. And by "everyone else," I mean my friend Amy. Ironically, her blog has since gone silent. I've tried keeping paper journals in the past, but never kept them going for more than a week or so, so I figured that this might be a good way to keep up with some long-term soul-searching. (And, as you may tell by reading the archives, I'm still searching.)

2. What CD are you currently recommending to others, and why?
John Legend, "Get Lifted." Wonderfully earnest love songs, great grooves, and a voice that's smoother than 800-count bedsheets. (Don't I have a future as a music critic?)

3. If you could be any character in a movie, which would you choose and why?
Hmmm... I think it'd have to be Mike from "Swingers." He learns how to really be good with women (and with himself as well), and even gets the girl in the end. (No, not like that, you sick fucks...)

4. What one superhero power would you most like to have?
Invisibility. And if you have to ask why, you don't know me very well.

5. What qualities are you looking for in a woman?
Well, this is the $10,000,000 Question now, isn't it? Here's a small list of what I'm looking for...
  • Smarts. Not just a college degree, but an actual working knowledge of the world at large. If she knows the last five presidents, last five NBA champions and last five Best Picture Oscar winners, that'll be a good start.
  • Skills. If she can change a tire, shoot pool and/or darts, tell a dirty joke, write, or (even better) teach me how to do something new, that'd be great.
  • Vocabulary. If she can refer to them as "dogs" and "cats," instead of "doggies" and "kitties," that'd be great.
  • Etc. If she has that little je nais se qua, that'd be even better.

That's about it. Any ideas where I can find her?

THINGS TO BLOG ABOUT WHEN I HAVE MORE TIME:
- What to do at work now that there's no more tests to take.
- What to do with Suzanne now that I'm no longer wanting her as a girlfriend.
- What to do about a place to live now that I've overstayed my welcome with my folks.

Well, I took the test...

and passed with a score of 80%. (201 out of 250 questions, to be exact.)

I'm now a Fully Licensed Securities Broker. Just don't expect any stock picks on this here blog, not yet anyway. Good thing is that I know I'll have this new job of mine for a little while longer, which is always a good thing.

TTYL....

I take my Series 7 license test in less than 12 hours.

Wish me luck, folks.
