The First Day of the Rest of My Life

Pico did this in his private LJ (all the cool kids are going "friends-only," it seems...), I figured it'd be fun to give it a shot.

GREG'S YEAR IN REVIEW
"2005 is going to be a good year."- Pico, in a comment on my post on Jan. 2.

January:
Kissed my ex in Austin to ring in 2005. Became a participant in the National Body Challenge. Got a job. Quit match.com. Started studying for my Series 6 exam.

February:
Find out about the wonders of teledildonics. Continue studying financial topics. Start becoming a gym rat.

March:
Go to truly unbelievable lengths for a booty call. Become angry with my alma mater when I find they're bringing in Ryan Cabrera for a concert on campus. See one of the Real World kids in the flesh, drinking and keeping homely girls at arm's length.

April:
"Reached out and touched" a young lady at a bar. Spent a day with V learning new and wonderful things about Catholicism, followed by my falling asleep during Mass. Celebrated a gal's 21st birthday by taking her out for drinks and other such activities.

May:
Quit my job. Turned 27. Celebrated with friends, one of whom had his car damaged. Hooked up with my ex. Saw my cousin graduate from a prestigious private math and science high school in North Carolina. Petted goats. Fed a horse. Shared a hotel room with my parents (and, thanks to their snoring, got no sleep). Got a job offer.

June:
Started a new job. Traveled to Corpus Christi to see two friends of mine get married. Got my first foreign postcard. Celebrated the Spurs' 3rd championship.

July:
Hung out a lot with Suzanne.

August:
Passed my Series 7 test (in about 1/2 to 1/3 of the time it took for me to take my Series 6 at the previous job). Saw John Legend in person. Saw G off.

September:
My highest-paying job ever became even more high-paying. Became overly familiar with storm systems.

October:
Saw B.B. King in concert. Saw a Henry Rollins spoken word show. Made my ex think I was going to propose to her. Went to a weekend retreat during the weekend of the Texas-OU game, wherein I broke up with Suzanne, witnessed a near-possesion, and played silly games. Planned an elaborate road trip, and had said plans dashed after protests from my folks.

November:
Ended up in Portland. Saw mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and Saucy-Drunk Suse. Got a number at a bar less than an hour after running into my ex at the same bar. Worked on Thanksgiving.

December:
Enjoyed a pretty good Christmas. Started seeing someone new. Started talks to buy a condo.

You know, Pico... I think you were right after all.

I called in sick today. Spent four hours talking to a doctor and getting prescription filled. What fun a day off can be, eh?

I was able to pick up the latest issue of Men's Health. While leafing through the pages, trying to learn new workout manuevers to try next month, there was an inset in a story about recharging your sex life titled "8 Ways to Make Yourself Irresistible to Women." Since most of the readers of this blog are women (most of the members of my blogroll are, anyway...), I'd like to share them with you and find out if these are indeed true.

1. Plan that trip you've been putting off.
2. Get a $100 haircut.
3. Browse organic markets.
4. Become a regular at someplace plush.
5. Renovate a room.
6. Throw a bash.
7. Read Gabriel Garcia Marquez novels in public.
8. Donate your time or money.

I spared the extra explanation lines for brevity's sake. So, ladies... is any of this true?

Before I get much further, please allow me to welcome my newest 2nd cousin, Mia, to the world. Born to my cousin and her husband yesterday morning around 10:45.

So there's a new gal in the picture. We'll call her "K." We met online at a Catholic dating site. That's right... me, Mr. "Model Catholic" met a nice woman through a website for Catholic singles. Anyway, we've been "out" a couple of times. (I use quotes because I don't believe we've had a date yet, just meeting different places.) The first meetup occured at the mall, where we bought ornaments, and I did some charity shopping. (Picked up two pairs of pants for the church "giving tree" program.) The second meetup happened last weekend after my company holiday party downtown; her friends and her met up with my friends and I at a martini bar. I followed her group over to a dance club on the Riverwalk. We danced, we drank, we kissed. Yep, I kissed her on the dance floor.

(Of course, the first kiss between Suzanne and I happened on a dance floor on 5th St. in Austin, but I'm hoping that's where the similarities end. Otherwise, you can pretty much write the postings on this blog up till 2008 or so...)

Things have been nice with her. She's nice, pleasant to be around, laughs at my jokes. Two possible drawbacks with this one, though:
A) Her alma mater.
B) Her status as a Mike Remlinger of dating. (And yes, I will get around to explaining this one of these days...)

Anyway, things are going okay with her so far. Kind of off to a slow start, but considering how quickly things have turned physical in past relationships, I figure it's not a bad change of pace. I'm just hoping I don't do anything to screw this up...

Borrowed from pico:
Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one reason why I like/love/adore you. Then put this in your own journal (if you like), and spread the love.

I promise that if you reply multiple times (hey, I have no friends, as evidence by the lack of response about the fake memory of me) i will give you different reasons why i like you.
