CATHOLICISM
Quiz time!

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

-Romans 10:9-10, 13

Question: The previous verse (the reference to it, anyway) was seen by me about half an hour ago. Where did I see it?

A) On a t-shirt.
B) On a billboard.
C) On the rear bumper of a black Toyota Supra turbo.

Can shyness be developed over the internets?

There's this gal whose profile I've looked at a few times lately, and I see that she's looked at mine. I've wanted to drop her an e-mail to try and initiate contact, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I just can't seem to find any words that would seem to make an e-mail from me stand out against a crowd. In the real world, she'd probably be the cute girl standing by the bar with her girlfriends, whilst I look every so often in her direction while half-paying attention to whatever game is on the TV.

Basically, I'm treating this e-mail (rightly or wrongly) as my lotto ticket of a chance, and I'm trying to pick the six numbers that would hit the jackpot. (Too bad there's no "quick pick" option...) She's a traveler (one of her pics shows her standing on some wall in Asia), a salsa dancer, and a Texas Ex. One obstacle, though: she's a 5'4" gal looking for a man who stands 5'10"-6'5". (Throw in the "Athletic and Toned" body type, and she's basically looking to meet Tony Parker...)

I'm sure I'll probably throw something together in the next day or so, just wanted to vent a little bit.

CRUISIN'

Well, it finally happened. Thanks to the good people at Travelocity and Hotwire, I'm fulfilling one of my resolutions. Of course, my itinerary may end up getting the best of me...

SUNDAY, JULY 9:
Schreiner State Park in Kerrville, TX
My condo, San Antonio, TX
V's sister's/parent's house, Houston, TX
George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston, TX
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
Calgary, AB, Canada

I'll be going from a retreat put on by the young adults' group from church, to my place to pick up and drop off stuff, to V's sister's or parent's house to drop off my car, to the airport to catch a 5:52 p.m. flight. A 33 minute layover in Minneapolis, and I'll be on a jet plane to Canada, touching down in "Cowtown" 56 minutes before midnight. (I'll have to keep convincing myself the plane ticket was a good deal...)

A day trip to Banff will definitely be planned, along with lots of hanging out with a certain Canadian gal. And all in about 12 days...

Anyone out there know of any cool hotels that a pair of twenty-somethings should stay when they visit Los Angeles for a few days in August?

I held a girl that was less than 90 minutes old earlier today.

At work, I got a text message stating that a friend of mine was in labor. After my shift, I headed straight for the hospital, where I met up with my friend, her husband, and their new addition. 7 lbs., 3 oz., born at 4:59 in the afternoon. I should have pictures somewhat soon.

Again, must be something about the summer and ch-ch-ch-changes...

At 10:19 p.m. tonight, a woman who I'm going out with tomorrow (not HM) called me.

309 minutes later, we hung up.

This should be interesting....

I've had dates cancelled before for a number of reasons: lack of interest, other plans, injury, etc. But today was a first: cancelled due to lack of a babysitter.

I guess it's time to introduce a new character to the fold. In the spirit of pseudonymous (sp?) blogging, we'll call her Hot Mama, HM for short. (I didn't call her "Big Mama" because she's not that big, and frankly, I didn't want "BM" references in my blog...)

We met a couple of weeks ago when I met up with a female friend of mine from work one Saturday night. I'd been out with some of the people from this group before, so I was ready to let loose and have some fun. Even wore my lucky white sheer cotton shirt from the Gap (lucky because I got a phone number for the first time in a long time while wearing it at a pool hall). HM is my friend's friend who also works at the Big Financial Company, in a separate department. We met up at a Mexican restaurant, where I munched on some bad nachos, then headed over to a bar for drinks and dancing. I'm not sure what exactly happened in the time that passed, but HM and I started dancing pretty close. Pretty soon, we started kissing. (Quick note to anyone that was there that night: I realize that making out on a dance floor isn't the nicest thing to see, soI apologize to all who were witness to my actions.)

Honestly, I was a little embarrassed, especially since this was occuring right in front of my friend. Turns out it was my friend's idea to introduce us. (Since then, I've taken to referring to her as the Puppet Master. Either that, or Steve Nash, since she leads the league in assists.) Anyway, 2:00 a.m. came around, and HM and I headed to my place. (It sounds so nice saying that...)

Since then, we've talked on the phone a bit, and went out for dinner last week, doing the whole "getting to know you thing." (Sex first, then dating and hanging out... I should write a book about that. Maybe I'll get as rich as Greg Behrendt...) We had planned to get together tonight here for dinner and a movie, but she left me a voicemail stating that she couldn't find a sitter for her four-year-old daughter.

This is the first time I've ever dated anyone that:
- had a child.
- was divorced.
- worked at the same place I did.

So far, so good. I'm not sure if I'm ready to make this a serious thing or not, only time will tell. If anything, I have a built-in excuse reason to take it slow.

There must be something about summer and changes.

A lot of change seems to be happening with me and those I know. I'm trying to make my house into a home (the HDTV I got at Best Buy definitely helps). Exploring new career paths, or what paths may be available to me down the road. Planning new adventures with myself and with friends (went to the Post Office yesterday to get my passport). Got an invitation today for a wedding happening next month (I'll actually be in the wedding as an usher and reader). Kristiface is experiencing her own change; adventures in botany and retail abound, as well as getting married. Profgrrrrl, on the other hand, officially ended her marriage. (My thoughts are with you, PG...)

What is it about warm weather that brings about metamorphoses?

Some random thoughts I've been wanting to get out of my head...

- Finally, I'm all moved in to my new place. I'll try to have pics up soon. The housewarming party is scheduled for the 24th, if you're interested in attending, let me know.

- I tell you, home decorating doesn't seem nearly as fun as they make it out to be on "Trading Spaces" or "While You Were Out."

- Do I just have prudish friends, or is the term "two-pump chump" really not that well known?

- Does sex + one date = exclusivity?

- One thing about packing and unpacking boxes, you pretty much have a forced trip down memory lane. Of course, the fact that I'm a packrat aids the nostalgia as well; I have artifacts dating back to when I was in 5th grade.

- Sandra's off on a journey to her homeland (well, the homeland of her parents, at least). Check it out here.

- One year ago today, I started work at my new job. Seems like time has just flown by.

- Other than rubbing frozen spoons on one's neck, what methods can be used to diminish or eliminate hickeys?

From a short IM session with K (you remember her, right?)...

K: sorry for the long delay
K: I had a "meeting" with my coworkers
K: we're stressed out and needed to vent
K: I'm doing well, other than work. I miss my job at OU and my friends, I hoped that I would have gotten over it all soon, but I haven't
K: Greg, my personal issues are the reason I haven't been in contact with you much lately; I need to figure out my own messed up life before I can bring somebody else into it

Well, at least I now know my friend's theory was wrong. Now I get to wait. They say it's the hardest part, but we'll see...
